This is a Web-Based program - Applicants must have a valid email address. Accepted Applicants are required to have access to the internet and a computer to bring to class. Step 3: APTITUDE TEST _____ Once a completed application is submitted, we will schedule you for an aptitude test. The aptitude test covers two proficiencies, reading comprehension and mathematics (Algebra based). In order to move to the next step (interview), a qualifying score is required. The Aptitude Test is scored using the Stanine Scoring method ("standard nine"). A stanine score is a way to scale scores on a nine-point scale (0-9). An applicant must earn a four (4) or better to move to the next step of the acceptance process. Anyone not receiving a qualifying score can re-take the Aptitude Test three (3) months from the last test. We recommend that our applicants utilize ElectricPrep, a website that provides voluntary online courses specifically crafted for individuals who want to practice their math and reading comprehension skills before taking the aptitude test. Courses offered include a mathematics refresher, reading comprehension, interview skills and an introduction to the electrical industry. However, there is a fee involved (which we do not see a penny of). If you can't afford these prep courses, we recommend that individuals prepare themselves for the math portion of the aptitude test by utilizing Khan Academy's a free math course for Algebra 1. If you meet the basic requirements, you will be scheduled to take the Electrical Training Alliance aptitude test battery — if required. The test battery consists of two tests. It will take approximately two and a half hours to complete. The number of items and the amount of time allotted for each test are shown on the following page.
You will take a short break between the Algebra and Functions Test and the Reading Comprehension Test. Approximately 24 to 48 hours after you take the test battery, your local JATC will receive the results. They will subsequently notify you concerning the disposition of your application. A full three (3) months must elapse before you may retake the test. The three month rule remains in effect after each subsequent retake of the test. PLEASE NOTE: WILLFUL ATTEMPTS TO VIOLATE THIS RULE MAY RESULT IN PERMANENT DISQUALIFICATION. If you obtain a qualifying score on the test battery, you will be scheduled for an oral interview. You will be interviewed by a committee representing both NECA and the IBEW. Based on the interview, and a review of your qualifications, you will receive an overall ranking. Your name will be placed on an eligibility list for one (1) year. As new positions become available in the apprenticeship program, names will be taken off the respective eligibility list in order of the ranking score. If you are not selected to begin an apprenticeship during that one-year period, you will need to reapply if you are still Step 4: INTERVIEW _____ If you score a 4 or higher on our aptitude test you will be invited to attend the next regularly scheduled oral interview. It is recommended that the applicant arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the interview session. All applicants must be present and accounted for prior to their assigned time slot. The overall interview session will last approximately 2.5 hours, so please plan accordingly. While the overall session may last hours, the actual interview will only last between 10 - 15 minutes.
